Mark 6:30-44 is the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand. The disciples and all the multitude sat and listened to Him for many hours in a deserted place. It was getting late, and the disciples suggested that Jesus let them go to their homes so they could eat. But Jesus said to them, “You give them something to eat.” The people replied, “Do you want us to go buy so much food it would cost us so much money?” Jesus said, “How many loaves do you have?” They replied, “We have five loaves and two fish.” Jesus asked everyone to sit down. At which point, Jesus multiplied the five loaves and two fishes and fed the multitudes with leftovers.
When I read this, it reminds me that God is still the same today. I so often fret and worry about this need or that need. Is He not able to take care of my needs just like He did in this story? The disciples were so often reprimanded for their unbelief. They walked with Jesus, they saw all the miracles, yet so soon forgot that God was able to meet any need.
So it is with me. What a waste of time to not take my needs to Jesus and believe that He will help me where I am lacking or provide a need that I have. God is our great provider. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. I need to remember to bring all my needs to Him whether great or small. God cares for us.
